The Elisabeth Haub School of Law at 星空传媒鈥檚 LALSA Moot Court Teams took home first and second place in this year鈥檚 17th Annual National Latina/Latino Law Student Association (NLLSA) Moot Court Competition. The Competition, held over the course of two days in Puerto Rico, is organized by NLLSA. Haub Law sent two teams to compete this year and in an exciting final round, the two Haub Law teams versed one another, ultimately finishing as the top two teams.
鈥淭his year鈥檚 Haub Law teams were well-prepared and excellent competitors,鈥 said Angelica Cancel 鈥17, one of the team鈥檚 coaches. 鈥淭o have our two teams take home first and second place is an honor and a testament to the dedication of the student advocates.鈥 The Haub Law Teams consisted of Samantha Portillo (3L) and Kaitlyn Cepeda (2L) on one team and Francesca Rocha (2L) and Emanuel Yax (3L) on the other team. Samantha and Kaitlyn鈥檚 team, coached by Michael Pabon 鈥22, finished in first, with Francesca and Emanuel鈥檚 team, coached by Angelica Cancel 鈥17, in second. Additionally, Francesca Rocha (2L) won the Top Oralist Award 鈥 Appellant.
鈥淚 am so grateful to have had the experience of traveling to Puerto Rico for this competition with my Haub Law teammates,鈥 LALSA Moot Court Team member Samantha Portillo (3L). 鈥淲e prepared for months leading up to the competition and it is rewarding to see that hard work pay off with the results.鈥 Haub Law has a strong history with NLLSA and the NLLSA Competition. Several Haub Law students have served on the executive board of NLLSA in the past. Currently, there are four Haub Law students on NLLSA鈥檚 executive board for the 2024鈥2025 academic year. Haub Law student Samara Pizarro 鈥25 is the NLLSA Attorney General and assisted in writing this year鈥檚 competition fact pattern. Additionally, Haub Law students Henry Rodriguez (2L), Joesph Martinez (3L), Jalice Zea-Roman (3L) are members of the NLLSA executive board.
鈥淭his was a tremendous accomplishment for our teams and coaches,鈥 said Professor Louis Fasulo, Director of Advocacy Programs and Professor of Trial Practice. 鈥淭he work and strategy along with the excellent argument made by the competitors led to both of our teams being recognized. Our victory here reflects the first time our teams received both champion and finalist recognition. The results speak volumes on the quality of our program and the dedication of all. The Elisabeth Haub School of Law at 星空传媒 Trial Advocacy Program has once again demonstrated its strength with a top finish by its National Trial League (NTL) team. Competing across seven rounds throughout the fall semester, the team has secured a Top 4 finish and advanced to the spring playoffs. As the reigning NTL champions, this latest success continues the momentum of the 星空传媒Haub Law NTL team.
The Elisabeth Haub School of Law at 星空传媒 Trial Advocacy Program continued its outstanding record of success this fall, earning top honors at two prestigious sports law competitions hosted by Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law. 星空传媒Haub Law Trial Advocacy teams competed in both the Villanova Baseball Filing Day Competition and the inaugural Villanova Law Hockey Negotiation Competition. These Competitions tested students鈥 negotiation, advocacy, and analytical skills in simulated professional sports settings.
The Elisabeth Haub School of Law at 星空传媒 is proud to announce that ten policy motions led by 星空传媒Haub Law students were officially adopted at the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) World Conservation Congress, held October 8鈥16, 2025, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. A cohort of four 星空传媒Haub Law faculty members, five students, and six alumni traveled to Abu Dhabi for the 2025 World Conservation Congress where they negotiated revisions to motions, crafted new and urgent motions, presented at sessions, addressed the IUCN President, and continued their environmental advocacy.
